When Growth Feels Messy: Learning to Honour the Space In Between

Some months feel like everything’s moving forward. And others… not so much. April, for me, was the latter.

Not because nothing was happening. Actually, a lot was. But emotionally, mentally—even physically—I felt like I was wading through mud (well, also literally true thanks to our Easter camping trip!).

My routines felt off. Some ideas I had high hopes for didn’t land. Things I thought would excite me left me feeling flat. And I found myself sitting with questions I thought I’d already answered.

You know that feeling when something just isn’t clicking anymore—even though it used to? That was me in April.

But instead of rushing to fix it, I paused. I listened. And slowly, I began to understand what was happening beneath the surface:

I was growing.

Why Growth Feels Messy

We talk about growth like it’s this glowing, picture-perfect transformation—like everything suddenly makes sense and clicks into place. And sometimes it does.

But more often? It’s uncomfortable. It’s full of doubt, grief, friction, and letting go of parts of you that once felt safe.

Understanding that we need to let go to make space for the new was one of my biggest lessons in April.

Here’s what I noticed:

  • I felt emotionally heavier—but not in a bad way. Just more aware.

  • I felt unaligned and kept questioning: Does this still feel right?

  • Things I once wanted didn’t feel like a fit anymore.

  • I questioned decisions I thought were solid.

At first, I judged all of this as negative—like I was off track.

But the truth? These were signs of deep internal shifts. The kind that don’t always come with clarity upfront.

Yet, they were the shifts I’ve been working towards for a while.

If you’ve been following along, you know I declared 2025 as my Year of Transformation—and yet I was still surprised when transformation actually started happening 😄

The Space In Between

What I call the space in between is that strange, uncertain place between who you were and who you’re becoming.

It’s when the old version of you doesn’t quite fit anymore, but the new version hasn’t fully formed yet.

It’s uncomfortable because it’s unfamiliar.

But it’s also sacred.

That’s where identity shifts happen.

That’s where your intuition gets louder.

That’s when you start noticing what no longer serves you—not because you failed, but because you’ve outgrown it.

And it’s so important to carry yourself through that time with love, awareness, and compassion.

Because all those small, behind-the-scenes shifts? They’re what add up to a big, soul-level quantum leap.

If You’re in the Messy Middle Right Now

Here’s what I want you to know:

  • Feeling confused isn’t a setback. It’s feedback.

  • Questioning everything doesn’t mean you’re lost. It means you’re awake.

  • Emotional waves don’t mean you’re broken. They mean you’re becoming.

And becoming takes time. Space. Stillness. Honesty.

Think of it like this:

You’ve been rowing in a certain direction for a while. You know there’s a current ahead that will help carry you, but you can’t see it yet. You just have to trust it’s coming.

Keep rowing in the direction that feels right.

Rowing back will cost you far more energy than staying the course.

A Simple Practice for the In Between

If this month (or this season) feels like a mess, try this:

  1. Sit in stillness

No fixing. No planning. Just listen.

Allow yourself to feel what you’re feeling—without labelling it. You don’t need to judge it as a negative experience.

Because the only way we learn to appreciate the bright days… is by knowing the harder ones.

  2. Journal three things that feel "off" right now

Then ask: Is this still aligned with who I’m becoming?

  3. Write down one small decision you can make today

One action that supports your next version—even if it’s getting more rest, asking for help, or saying no.

Sometimes we only recognise growth in hindsight.

But I’m learning to honour it as it’s happening—even when it’s messy, uncertain, or a little emotional.

So if April felt off for you too, maybe it’s because you’re growing.

And maybe—just maybe—the space in between isn’t something to rush through…

but something to hold with presence and curiosity.

You’re not falling behind.

You’re becoming.

And that’s something worth staying present for.

Let me know in the comments—have you ever had a season where nothing made sense, but something deep was shifting inside?

With Love,

Mimi
